Adonai Garcia
“ Streets get safer when the people who use them every day have a reliable way to be heard, and when the authority can act on what they say without exposing anyone.
Background
Adonai Garcia is a Dominican civil engineer specializing in sustainable urban mobility, traffic engineering and city-scale technology. He combines more than nine years of public and private sector experience with graduate training at York University in Toronto and two master’s degrees in Spain, and has led ViaTechLabs since 2019. Viatic is the company’s Canada-first product, built from the ground up for Canadian privacy law and for municipalities that need evidence they can act on.
His career began at J.G. Cajiao & Associates, where he led the field surveys for the Dominican Republic’s first Sustainable Mobility Plan in Santiago de los Caballeros. At INTRANT, the Dominican transit authority, he led the optimization of all signalized intersections in Santo Domingo and other provinces, was part of the technical team behind the implementation of the city’s first official bicycle lane, and served as institutional spokesperson before the Senate, radio and television, translating technical projects into language residents could follow.
His graduate work at York University deepened his applied research practice: he received the 2024 Ron Rice Award for best paper at the Canadian Transportation Research Forum and chaired the university’s Institute of Transportation Engineers chapter. His thesis at ViaTechLabs is straightforward: change in urban mobility will not come from more bureaucracy or shelved studies. It comes from software built together with the people who experience the problem and the officials who have to solve it.
